DESERT TOYZ ATV RACING TEAM entered the 2005 TSCO Vegas to Reno offroad race aboard a factory backed, Desert Toyz built KYMCO Mongoose 250. The ATV and team were factory sponsored by KYMCO USA, along with Elko suspension, Payroll Performance, Four ATV racing, OMF wheels, F&L racing, and Trail Tech lights. The Riders included Michael Moreno, Chris Strait, and Jacob Hill. The race started just outside Las Vegas and they were the last quad to leave the start. The first five miles of the race was solid rock and very rough. Quite a few riders were left on the sideline to watch the remaining 495 miles of the race. The team made it through the roughest part of the course and all the way to Pit 9 without any problems, even stopping to tow in a fellow ATV rider 15 miles to Pit Six. Three miles outside of Pit 9, the KYMCO ATV suffered a flat front tire due to a very large rock in the course. They continued 20 miles through deep sand on a flat tire all the way to Pit 10 where they finally got a new tire mounted. Night began to fall at this point in the race and at Pit 11, they switched riders and mounted a light bar to help cope with the darkness of the desert. They made it to mile 383, just before Pit 12 when the rider got stuck in a silt bed. It was dark and he left his lights on so no other vehicle would run into him. He waved his stuck stub at four vehicles that didn't stop and was then forced to stand in the middle of the course to give his stub to the H-3. By the time the pit support could get to him, the battery had died and they could not get the machine running in time to get to Pit 13. The KYMCO ATV worked perfect and the team had no complaints about the product. They all had a great time and thanked Casey Folks for organizing a great race as well as Cory Sappington for giving three young guys the experience of a lifetime. Big thanks also go out to KYMCO USA and all the rest of the sponsors. They look forward to the next race.
